Can we trust Donald Trump?

The war, ushered by a cynical man who himself doesn’t know why he’s prolonging the flames of conflict to the center of the world, paused. A sigh of relief for everyone, facing skyrocketing global oil prices, at least the graph will pause momentarily. Globally, everyone is celebrating, at least they are heading to something positive in the middle of chaos. But, the main question is, are we looking for momentary pauses or a long-standing peace in the world?

Among the bunch of questions debated on the internet by the experts and common public, one of the primary question overlooked is, can we trust Donald Trump, a person who has not only clearly violated the international law by grabbing a country leader along his wife; few days before bombing a school in Iran, killing 150 young souls, but also squandered $40 million on evacuating immagriants from his country, the same people who have fled to his country because his country has made a hell out of their country in the past 70 years. Can we trust this man?

In the past few days, in fact, throughout the course of the war, this cynical man has stumbled like a ping pong ball on his Truth Social platform. His mental instability is another hot topic that the global and the US political commentators are talking about. He has terribly downgraded himself by announcing to diminish the whole civilization of Iran, a vibrant civilization that is standing on its 5000-year legacy. I am worried that those around him in the White House don’t tell him the resilient history of the Persian Empire, which withstood the reigns of Alexander the Great and later Roman rulers.

Now will head to the main question: can we trust this man, who has even quarreled with his decades-old ally, Denmark, over Greenland, a person who was cursing like a teenager when denied the Nobel Peace Prize, a person who has included a genocidal state in a so-called “peace board,” a person who has pulled out of all the global organizations, and the same organziaitons which helped his country throughout the cold war and later in war on terror. The person who has left millions on the verge of death, due to his withdrawal from the WHO, from malnutrition, famine, diseases, and epidemics in the underdeveloped countries, the same countries whose devastation is credited to his country and his NATO peers. Can any rational person in the world, even his own family, trust such a man? The answer, for me, is no.

Now, we will look towards the negotiations and the momentary sigh of relief for all, especially for the mothers in Iran and the Middle East who were losing their kids. At least they will sleep in peace for two weeks. The most ironic fact of this war is that no one knows why this war has started, not the madman himself. If no one is aware of the motives behind the war, then at what points the warring parties will agree is the mystery we will know in the next couple of days.

In the morning on 8th April, I was listening to a famous British-American journalist and founder of Zoteo, Mehdi Hasan, who said that the 10-point plan received by the White House also contains the point to enrich uranium, which is shocking, as Trump has announced it as a workable plan. Also, reported by the Al Jazeera, that Washington is willing to accept the proposal that Iran will take taxes from the ships that cross the Strait of Hormuz to recoup their losses. If the Trump administration agrees to this, this will be a slap on the face of the global powers, but also a shock for the world, as for what they will pay the price, and still paying, the price of the unjust war. Why are the poor countries, like Pakistan, and the common people paying the price in the form of rising fuel prices and inflation?

It’s too early to celebrate the peace, as some in Islamabad and globally are celebrating, until the people like Donald Trump are present at the center of global politics. How can you sign a deal with a person who violates even the international law? Who can guarantee the long-standing peace in the Middle East this time? These questions are and will bother the global leaders, journalists, and academicians in the upcoming months. There’s also a need for a great deal of attention to be paid to the vulnerabilities of the failing liberal world order and international law, which has failed badly and has been left naked by the sheer austerities and genocide of the masses in Gaza by the Israel.

There’s still much to happen at the dynamic global political circus, as the nature of the circus is built upon competition, not cooperation.  Among the many lessons learned by humankind is also that never trust cynical leaders like Trump and Netanyahu. Everyone around the globe is hoping that the negotations must bring an end to the war so the oil prices dip again to the prices before February 28, but would this be a lasting peace? No one can guarantee, not even the Washington. There’s a vital need for developing political literature addressing the fractures of the global political order and building a world order that guarantees peace to every mother. A system where no other Trump is led to power.
